I am preparing for a new tour in Germany from the 9th - 17th of February. I am really looking forward to meet the German audience again! And on the last night of the tour we make a stop in Vienna - I am so excited!
This time we have a new bass player with us - Daniel Franck. The ensemble is sounding fabulous!

Bergen

I am bow in Bergen working with my bass player Magne and my drummer Ivar on some new songs for the next album. I am really excited - it is sounding good:) It is such an inspiration to work with so talented and committed people. It is simply wonderful to finally get to level 2; arranging the songs I have been composing over the last few months.

And even though it´s been terribly cold today Bergen has really showed itself from its best side: sun and clear blue sky, and lots of smiling people:)

Cristmas song

I forgot to mention that I have been co-writing a Christmas song with Hanne Sørvaag (known for composing the Norwegian song for the Eurovision Song Contest , great songwriter) and Britt-Synnøve Johansen (wellknown singer and actress in Norway). It has turned out really wonderful - a nice melody with Norwegian lyrics. We recorded it this week and it will be launched as a radio singel by the end of November. We are doing a Christmas concert together on the 16th of Dec in Stavanger Konserthus.

Germany

After several concerts in Norway this fall the Randi Tytingvåg Ensemble is going back to Germany next week. On the 4th we play a concert in Hamburg and on the 5th we play in Jena. We are really looking forward to it!
In February we will tour in Germany, Austria and Italy. I will keep you posted as soon as I get the details!

I like this season...a lot of rain and wind... a good excuse to stay inside and drink red wine:)

I just came home from Oslo. We really enjoyed playing at Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria! Wonderful crew and wonderful audience. And I am so happy with my ensemble - what great musicians and personalities! Can´t wait to play in Stavanger on Sunday:)

This week I will be giving singing lessons at Rogaland Teater and finishing up some of my new songs. I am so grateful to have such an exiting job.

Nowadays I am preparing two great concerts:

- Saturday 18.th of Sept: Randi Tytingvåg plays at Nasjonal Jazzscene in Oslo at 9 PM. Doors open at 8 PM.
- Sunday 26th of Sept: Randi Tytingvåg Ensemble plays at Madlamark kirke in Stavanger at 7.30 PM.

Hope to see you there! We are very inspired after wonderful festival gigs in Germany this summer.

6th and 7th of August in the South of Germany

Just got back from two wonderful gigs in the South of Germany. We had such a great time! On the 6th of August we played an open air concert in Hassloch, in the oldest house/backyard in the region. A fantastic atmosphere! 250 tickets were sold before we got there - and about 350 people at the concert all in all. The day after we drove to Düsseldorf for a jazz festival there. We played a concert in a huge park and over 1000 people came. The German audiences are spoiling us! :)
Now I am back home in Stavanger and feeling very happy and inspired. The next few days I will be composing..

Summer plans

After touring a lot in Germany in March/April I have taken some time now to concentrate on composing. I hope to have a new album ready by the end of 2011/ beginning of 2012. Lots of new songs are taking its form and I find this process very exciting. So this summer I have to finish most of the songs and start planning the rehearsing and arrangements with my ensemble.
We will also be playing some concerts in Germany this summer:
14.07. Memmingen, Memminger Meile
06.08. Deidesheim, Palatia Jazz
07.08 Düsseldorf, Jazzschmiede concert series.
29.08. Saarbrücken, SR Rundfunk Mitschnitt

In the autumn we will do more concerts in Norway - I will keep you updated as soon as things fall into place.

Norwegian Randi Tytingvåg astounds at Spring Jazz Festival
Kassel. 150 audience members were thrilled by a singer with cult potential and her accompanying band, no less top-class, on the second evening of Kassel’s Spring Jazz Festival. Music that defies classification is what Randi Tytingvåg presented in the highly acclaimed performance in Karlshospital’s historical vaulted cellar.

In this Norwegian songwriter’s inventive eclecticism, it can happen that a song begins like a jazz ballad and then turns into a chanson in triple time ("Red Or Dead"). Or that a song with far-east melodics suddenly becomes the band’s power field for a mighty discharge of jazz ("Big In China"). Curiously long is also the list of names that journalists have been trying to compare their style with: Tom Waits, Kate Bush, Kurt Weil, Barbra Streisand, Astor Piazzolla and - not to forget - Pippi Langstrumpf.

A myriad of facets, from lascivious whispering to powerfully high pinnacles of notes, can be found in Tytingvåg‘s perfectly intoned vocals. Her performance is theatrical as well, in the best sense of the word: arms spread wide, her mimicry now dreamy, then mischievous. No less brilliant are Anders Aarum (Keyboards), Espen Leite (Akkordion), Magne Thormodsaeter (Double Bass) und Ivar Thormodsaeter (Drums). Spacy sprinkles of sound, choral church-like chords and vital tango virtuosity come from the accordeon player. The pianist has a lot to offer as well – from plucking the strings inside the grand piano to elegant fury on the keys.

After enthuiastic applause, the encores pack even more style-mixing punch; after a shrewd audience sing-along version of Cole Porter‘s "My Heart Belongs To Daddy", Tytingvåg follows with the elfen vocals of a Norwegian traditional. Cult status pending.
